The legend, history and tradition of fragrances Carthusia
Legend has it that in 1380 the father prior of the Monastery of St. Giacomo was taken unaware by the news of the arrival on Capri of the Queen Giovanna D'Anjou, he prepared a collection of the most beautiful flowers of the island; flowers were three days in the same water and when thrown away, the prior noticed that the water acquired a fragrance unknown to him, so he turned to the religious scholar, alchemist who traced the origin of the "Garofilum Silvestre Caprese". That water became the first perfume of Capri.
The story, however, says that in 1948 the prior of the Monastery discovered the old formulas of the perfumes and, by permission of the Pope revealed to a chemist of Torino, who 'created the smallest laboratory in the world and called it "Carthusia" ie "Certosa".
Today the tradition continues and the limited production methods are the same ones used by the Carthusian monks, all preparations are made from natural raw materials of high quality and even the finished product is hand-wrapped. The essence derived from rosemary picked on Monte Solaro is used in humans, while the wild pink Capri is the basis of women's products.
